Dot Lake Community Heating System

Introduction

The Dot Lake community is located on the Alaska Highway 50 miles Northwest of Tok and 155 miles Southeast of Fairbanks. In the 1990s the Dot Lake community installed a Garn 3200 boiler to provide supplemental heat to their school, washeteria, and supplemental heat to 10 homes. The system burns slab wood refuse from a sawmill, which is purchased at $35/cd. The system replaces about 50% of the fuel oil used by the community. The boiler uses a heat exchanger and uses a buried heating system to heat various buildings.
