Introduction
In May of 2008, the State Legislature created the Alaska Heating Assistance Program (AKHAP) for households with income between 150% and 225% of the poverty income guidelines.
The program helps households pay a portion of home heating expenses. The program runs from October 1 through April 30. Households with elderly or disabled members may apply from September 1 through April 30. All other households may apply beginning October 1st. The first benefit checks will be processed on November 2, 2011.
