Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

Introduction

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has a Low Income Home Energy Program (LIHEAP) with the mission of assisting "low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for home energy, primarily in meeting their immediate home energy needs," according to the website.

The program offers aid in the form of bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, weatherization and energy-related home repairs.

Certain household income requirements must be met to qualify for the LIHEAP program.
